Gordon-Conwell’s multi-denominational history reflects a longstanding commitment both to a theological orthodoxy and diversity. In recognition of this commitment, Gordon-Conwell—Charlotte, an LCMC-approved seminary, offers multiple options within the Lutheran Studies Program to equip Lutheran pastors and laypersons for Kingdom service.
To learn more about the program, please contact Rev. Dr. Mary Havens, Director of Lutheran Studies at [email protected] or call (704) 527-9909.
The Lutheran Studies program features graduate-level seminary training that is built upon the following foundations:
Gordon-Conwell offers students three options to pursue graduate degrees, all with concentrations in Lutheran studies:
The Master of Divinity with a concentration in Lutheran Studies is ideal for individuals desiring to become ordained as a Lutheran pastor. Features training in biblical studies, Christian thought, practical ministry and Lutheran distinctiveness, the M.Div. is our most comprehensive degree.
The Master of Religion with a concentration in Lutheran Studies is ideal for individuals desiring to become ordained as a Lutheran pastor. This program features training in church history, Christian thought, practical ministry and Lutheran distinctiveness.
The Master of Arts in Christian Ministries provides excellent preparation for ministry wherever God leads. As a low-residency program, the Master of Arts in Christian Ministries program also provides students the opportunity to study wherever they are located. Students may combine the MACM degree with the CLS certificate.
Gordon-Conwell—Charlotte offers two certificate options for Lutheran Studies: the 30-credit hour graduate certificate, and the 12-credit hour post-graduate certificate (for those who already hold a theological master’s degree). The certificate programs provide Lutheran-specific courses that meet denominational requirements for those preparing for Word and Sacrament, Word and Service ministry and for those who seek to deepen their knowledge of Lutheran history and theology.
Intended for those who wish to delve more deeply into the Lutheran tradition, this certificate fulfills the requirements of the Lutheran Year. (Of itself, this certificate does not prepare students for ordination.)
